How to Add a Watermark to Your Photos for Free (No Photoshop Needed)
Protect your photos and designs from unauthorized reuse with a text or logo watermark — no software to install.
Why watermark your images
If you sell digital products, share portfolio work, or publish original photography online, an unprotected image is trivially easy to screenshot and reuse without credit. A watermark doesn't make theft impossible, but it does make casual reuse obvious and traceable back to you — and it reinforces your brand every time the image is shared.
Text vs. logo watermarks
- Text watermarks are fastest to set up — just type your name, brand, or website URL.
- Logo watermarks look more polished and reinforce brand recognition, especially if you already have a transparent PNG logo.
How to add a watermark for free
- Open the Watermark Tool.
- Upload the image you want to protect.
- Choose the Text or Logo tab.
- Pick a position (corner, edge, or center), and adjust opacity and rotation.
- Download the watermarked image.
Choosing the right opacity and position
A watermark that's too bold distracts from the image itself; one that's too subtle is easy to crop out. A good starting point is 50-70% opacity in a bottom corner — visible enough to deter reuse, subtle enough not to dominate the photo. For higher-value content, a semi-transparent watermark across the center is harder to crop out entirely.
Frequently asked questions
Will a watermark stop people from stealing my photos? Not entirely, but it makes unauthorized use obvious and easy to trace, and discourages casual reuse.
Can I use my logo instead of text? Yes — the Logo tab accepts any PNG, JPG, or WebP image, ideally a transparent PNG logo.
Does watermarking reduce image quality? No, the watermark is composited onto the image without re-encoding the rest of the photo at a lower quality.
